LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – In a news release on Monday, Lubbock Area United Way says the organization has received a $10,000 grant from Bayer Fund, a philanthropic arm of Bayer in the U.S.
The grant will help facilitate the expansion of the organization’s annual program, United We Read, to serve students in rural school districts.
Amanda McAfee, Lubbock Area United Way President & CEO, said “This grant allows us to expand the impactful United We Read event, and demonstrate to children the different career possibilities in the agriculture and STEM fields while emphasizing the fun of reading.”
In Bayer Fund and Lubbock Area United Way’s mutual goal to see the communities we serve flourish, this grant will support the organization’s education initiatives by allowing it to reach more second grade children, share the fun of reading, expand their knowledge of Agri-stem job possibilities, and share the importance of reading proficiency with their guardians.
“Bayer Fund is proud to support Lubbock Area United Way and their work to make real, sustainable impacts in the South Plains,” said Al Mitchell, President of Bayer Fund. “Programs like United We Read help our neighbors and makes our community stronger.”
