United Way Launches 75th Anniversary Campaign

October 12, 2022

Press Release – At its Mid-Campaign Report Luncheon today, Lubbock Area United Way announced that the community has contributed $3,097,687 to the Annual Campaign. Campaign Chair Laura Vinson, Prosperity Bank, stated that these gifts put United Way 53.3% to the 2022 goal of $5.8 million.

Vinson told the crowd of more than 700, “If we’re looking, there is always light up ahead. There is always hope. It may not be in the form we’re looking for, but there is always hope. Today, you are that hope for someone. You may not realize it. You may never know it. They may never know how you helped them. But you are a light.”

At the event, United Way recognized the work of its Community Impact Committee, including more than 60 volunteers who participate in United Way’s annual review process. The organization also shared a video interview with a sex-trafficking survivor who was helped by several of its Community Partners, including Voice of Hope, the Lubbock Children’s Health Clinic, and Catholic Charities. Proceeds from the Annual Campaign go to support the life-saving work of United Way’s partner agencies. The video can be found on United Way’s social media.

Sidney Hopper, President of United Supermarkets, presented a check for $116,700 from the 30th Annual Jacky Pierce Charity Golf Classic. Vinson also announced that the United Way LIVE UNITED Golf Tournament raised $119,440.

The Campaign Celebration will be held at 11:30 AM on Tuesday, November 29th at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center. Volunteers and community members wishing to attend should RSVP at or call 806.747.2711.
