Give students an opportunity to grow their love of reading by volunteering for United We Read!
About United We Read
Inspiring Young Readers Across the Lubbock Community
United We Read is a partnership with Lubbock County school districts that encourages 2nd graders to build strong reading skills and prepare for 3rd grade. Each fall, volunteers read to students, lead a hands-on craft, and give every child a copy of the featured book to take home.
We believe education is the key to every child’s future success. Research shows that by 3rd grade, children must move from learning to read to reading to learn—making early literacy critical.
Last year, more than 500 volunteers visited 205 classrooms across 10 school districts and 2 charter schools, inspiring over 3,800 students through United We Read.
United We Read is a fun way for students to stay engaged in reading. We need volunteers to help us organize and provide thousands of students with books and crafts!
Read to Students
Volunteers will read a children's book to 2nd grade classrooms across the LISD district to encourage reading.
Prepare Crafts
We prepare a craft that matches the theme of the book to keep students interested and engaged in the story.
