The South Plains Early Childhood Education Coalition connects families, educators, and community organizations to ensure children are prepared for educational success.
The South Plains Early Childhood Education Coalition (SPECEC) is a collaborative initiative focused on enhancing early childhood education across the South Plains region of Texas. The coalition comprises various community organizations, including the South Plains Community Action Association (SPCAA), Lubbock Area United Way, Workforce Solutions South Plains, and Texas Rising Star Providers. Together, they aim to ensure that children from birth through preschool are prepared for success in their educational journey.
SPECEC’s primary mission is to prepare children from birth through preschool for success throughout their education. The coalition emphasizes the importance of early education, social, and emotional development. By fostering collaboration among community partners, SPECEC seeks to provide quality educational opportunities and resources to families in the South Plains region.
One of the coalition’s signature events is the annual “Quality Day of Play.” This free family event brings together over 1,000 families to showcase the benefits of quality play and early learning. The event features activities such as free children’s books, age-appropriate games, and appearances by popular children’s characters like Clifford the Big Red Dog. Community partners, including Texas Rising Star Providers, Lubbock ISD, and PBS Kids of Texas Tech Public Media, collaborate to make this event a success.
SPECEC, in partnership with Lubbock Area United Way, provides resources to help families assess and enhance their children’s readiness for kindergarten. These resources include skill cards and checklists that guide parents and caregivers in supporting their children’s early development. The coalition also works to increase access to quality and affordable childcare, ensuring that children are well-prepared for their educational journey.
Through its collaborative efforts, SPECEC has made significant strides in improving early childhood education in the South Plains region. By bringing together various community partners, the coalition has created a network of support for families and educators. This collaborative approach has led to increased access to quality educational resources, enhanced professional development for educators, and a stronger focus on the social and emotional development of young children.
